Abraham Maslow proposed a theory: Humans have deficiency needs and growth needs. Deficiency needs is more concerned with survival, while growth is more concerned with self- actualization and potential, creativity, other societal concerns.

In the above image, physiological needs is the first step. Our bodies have demands that are far rooted in NEED. Food, sleep, sex — those kinds of things. When we go too long without them, it creates a deficit and ultimately a person may feel they have to do something to get comfortable.

The next two steps deal with safety as in property ownership, family, etc. and then love and belonging.

The final step at the precipice is self-actualization.

As you climb further up, you realize that you no longer worry over your basic needs. They have been met. You are now able to focus on your self-esteem, achievements — purpose.

Here’s the problem.

When you’re out on the street, hunting for your next meal or next coin, the thought of going to Church and listening to someone speak about the many blessings God has for humanity, takes a back seat.

You are more worried about survival. Just making it to the next step. Your body is aching — your stomach is touching…
