Why Wattpad Did Not Work For Me
I am not about to throw too much shade on Wattpad. It was a great platform in 2015 for me to use and I had one reader.
You read that right. One.
The reader enjoyed my so-called teen fiction. Even if the reason I failed to get readers were because a)my own writing skills or b) poor marketing skills.
I’ve seen much, much worse stories receive 1.2k reads and likes that could have been written by my rabbit for all I know.
Here are some reasons why I think Wattpad did not work for me.
A Brand New Platform
At the time, it was a new platform for me and I was not aware at how crowded it was. I pressed onward though, writing stories about angry teen boys who were handsome and angry and overweight girls who found love despite the bullying. To me, it was a great premise but the site was already(and continues to be) flooded with these kinds of stories.
Overcrowded
During this time, Wattpad was hugely popular. It is like Etsy now though: overcrowded and it is hard to be heard over everyone else. It is super competitive to get people to read your stories.
There is but so many keywords and sharing across networks you can do if it is a congested site already.
