Why Patrick Felt The Need To Disrespect SpongeBob

With friends like this, who needs enemies?

There I was watching the SpongeBob episode called “I’m With Stupid” and a lightbulb went off in my head, much like when an animated character has a great idea.

“I can process what this mean,” I said to myself. “It is deeper than we think.”

Patrick Star(a starfish), is SpongeBob’s friend, but I hesitate to call him that due to how he treats SpongeBob. There are actually quite a few episodes where Patrick shows he is not truly reliable nor is he a grateful character.

In “I’m With Stupid”, SpongeBob agrees to be “dumber” than Patrick so that Patrick can show off that he is smart to his family. Patrick wanted to show off to his scholar family that he has a friend “slower” than he. SpongeBob agrees with this because, heck isn’t that what friends do?

However, Patrick takes it too far, calling SpongeBob names and calling out his nature as a sponge. After a while, SpongeBob grows tired of it and storms out of Patrick’s home. The gag is that the starfish family was NOT Patrick’s real family, but even so, Patrick thought that by using SpongeBob, it will give him a leg up in the “smart” category.
