Picture this.

Your child is looking at the page you hand them. You see their little face scrunch and furrow as their little eyes slowly glide over each letter of the word, then they pause. Their hands squeeze into fists as they shut their eyes to keep the tears from falling. They cannot understand what they see. All they see are symbols. Squiggles. The words are alien.

Your child(sadly), cannot read.

Other children with literacy troubles, display anguish, sadness, and in worst case scenarios, the child may find reading so hard, that they do all they can to avoid the work.

Note: I have been a lifelong tutor and writer, and seeing a child improve their reading skills is better than most gifts in the world. This article is built from a combination of my own experience, and current research.
