What you've written is right on point! I am sorry for your loss, and I am quite sure your mother would have absolutely LOVED the representation of Black women these days!

You mentioned about Black men in film: I noticed the same thing. In many films like sci/fi or horror or even action, I told my husband, "Hey. Notice that Black women are excluded?" Now, he notices it. He is a huge supporter of Black women in film.

There would always be that one black boy and the rest are white/Hispanic women, white boys and just overwhelmingly WHITE. No black women.

So, yep, I am all for us being scientists in films, or using martial arts, or even being a fish singing in water.
