Last night, I decided to look up some statistics on book readers. Which genre is very popular and which is the least popular.

To my surprise, non-fiction’s revenue climbed a whopping 22.8% in the last five years.

But my focus today will be on the sub-genres. The fiction. The tales. The fantasy we are so drawn to. Let’s look at some cool statistics.

As you can see, the romance and erotica categories are super popular with 1.44 billion readers(and the numbers may be higher!). Romance has always been popular because people still adore love stories. No matter if it is in the subcategory of paranormal fiction, science fiction, or crime — two people falling in love wins every time.

We can learn some important facts from a textbook. Glean understanding from a biography of an astronaut, or even take notes on books that help our habits.

The real question is, what do we get out of reading fiction?
