What I appreciate most about your article, are the images, depicting Black women as fit and beautiful because THAT right there is the truth. Each race has their "undesirables", it's just that our 'negatives" are highlighted the most
Case in point, the common denominator, by your ten points-- was media. A lot of society and media shape our perceptions of what is desirable and what is not. We are socialized by movies like Norbit, Shenanae from Martin, and Madea and unfortunately, we are not "smart enough" to realize, "Oh goodness! Not all Black women look and act like this!"
I do agree with the health and wellness part as well. Unfortunately, I have to admit that our health and weight as Black women are not ideal. But...this goes for Black people as a whole. We self soothe with bad "soul foods" due to stress which increases cortisol, which in turn increases fats. Most low income communities have big, unhealthy people who "comfort eat" constantly(there is research to back this up).
So yes, we are definitely unhealthy, we must come back to focusing on wellness and self love.
Thank you for your words.
