What Has Medium Done For Me In The Past Year?

After reading Judy Derby ‘s “Medium Paid For My Property Taxes the Last Two Years”, I was inspired to write about how Medium has shaped my life in the past year. I hope this will inspire you as the reader to continue to write and share your words while holding onto honesty.

Before writing on Medium, I was submitting poetry to print journals (winning some and losing some, eh, that’s how it is). I was also writing articles for pay on some websites, but I’ve always had a blogger’s heart. A reader’s heart. A writer’s soul.

I Googled and stumbled upon Medium in 2021.

So, what has it done for me lately?

It has humbled me

Reading people’s comments (not the trolls’), has sincerely humbled me. I learn so much from all of you. I appreciate people telling me about their backgrounds, their families and personal histories.

It is also humbling when I receive a personal note that something was off about my article — whether it was my grammar or a tiny misspelling of some kind. I appreciate those as well. It makes me to become a better writer. Becoming a better writer also allows me to create…
