To Change Who You Are, You Must Change What You Do

As we enter another new year, let’s think of more intrinsic goal setting instead of resolutions

You’ve probably got out your vision boards and notebooks; idea cards, and goal apps — as you should. It is well advised to re-examine your life and create goals. However, before New Year’s Day, we ALWAYS create resolutions. Why? There must be a better way to become the person we want to be.

There is.

A resolution is simply the “act of determining or resolving something”. If you are resolving to do something, that means you are at the point of “no return”. You need this change badly and want to see a different you enter the new year.

This can place a lot of pressure on you, so here is some advice that has helped me and that I will continue in the new year:

Be kind to yourself

In my diabetic support group, we always say, “be kind to yourself”. We are only human.

If you “fall off the wagon”, pick yourself back up. Even though a new year is approaching, don’t think you will be perfect. Most people, according to some statistics, keep their resolutions for at least six months, some shorter than that. Perhaps a small percentage actually stick…
