This Is What Happened When I Decided To Do Zazen Meditation For 30 Days
Meditating unlocked a few doors but it was not easy getting the key
From complicated breathing techniques to visions of dragons, meditation has taught me one thing if nothing else: it is a quiet place of excitement when done wrong, and disturbing when done right.
Zazen is “sitting mediation” or could be implied as simply sitting. After reading Kim Boykins’ Zen For Christians, I decided to do zazen meditation with counting the breath — since I am a cold beginner. All this means is that instead of just sitting and breathing, I will be counting to ten on each breath, so for example, “Inhale 1, exhale 2, inhale 3 and so on…”
Counting my breath with a buzzing soul
I began in April earlier this year. I thought silently sitting for two minutes was too much. This is a scary revelation because I can sit for much longer as I read and knit, but when it came to meditating, my body became abuzz with movement and I wanted to think on things.
I began with 2-minute meditation because as an absolute beginner I need to start off with the atomic, or smallest habit of meditating.
