If I Ain't Readin'

This article is definitely going to be shared. I’ve experienced heinous attitudes as a service worker while on the flip side, being a patient customer despite horrible service.

For example, I was working at a grocery store several years ago. I had just walked in from the rain and thunder, and was terribly winded. When I got on the register, I was breathing hard. The older white lady frowned and threw her frozen peas on the belt, then yelled, “She’s breathing hard! Like she doesn’t want to be here!” I was so stunned I said nothing. Thank goodness for my manager who was done ringing up customers in front of me, she told me gently, “ I’ll take it from here, Erica. Go rest a bit.” I’ve had other rude customers before, especially when I worked fast food.

My husband, bless his heart. He tips workers all the time. Delivery, Lyft, cashiers, you name it. I make it a habit to say thank you to them all, we tip over and above to show appreciation.

Now, recently(last example), we were at a seafood restaurant we’ve never been to before. It was mostly white customers and servers, this was not an issue, my sis in law picked the place. We noticed that the white servers never asked how we were doing and one of them gave us dirty looks…after nearly 2 hours of no food, we got highly upset. Someone could have at least said, “ Hey…we’re swamped but it’ll be X amount of time for your food" Nope. Nothing. Instead the manager came out there, old as dust, complaining she don’t know what is going on. Lady, I said, “I’m telling you so you’ll know.”

Anyway, it goes back to us showing humanity and respect. Sorry for the novel writing😏
