‘The Twilight Zone’: These Two Episodes Gave Me Goosebumps!
Two episodes were mirrors reflecting society at large…and me
This New Years was spent watching the black and white version of ‘The Twilight Zone’ — which first aired in 1959(in my opinion, those are the best). In particular, there are two episodes that gave me goosebumps because they pretty much show us where we are today — and maybe where we’re going?
I’ll start with ‘The Mind and the Matter” episode. In this episode, Mr. Archibald Beechcroft is tired of people: he is tired of bumping into them, of them spilling drinks on his clothes — he is even tired of the noise.
Beechcroft is then given a book by a coworker called, The Mind and the Matter. He scoffs at first, but after reading the entire book, he is able to make people disappear through concentration.
Why was this a lesson for me?
I often say I wish that people would just leave me alone when I was a teen. Sadly, I did this to those who cared for me. Secretly, I didn’t want that of course, because in the Twilight Zone, Archibald truly got his wish.
It was dreadfully boring without people.
If I were him, I would have let a few good people remain. For me, I’d love to have my hubby, family and friends…
