The R Kelly Trial Is More About Us Than Him
It’s a common problem that happens in OUR community.
According to reports everywhere, Robert Slyvester Kelly is now facing an additional twenty years in prison, on top of the thirty that he’s getting now. The Chocolate Factory singer is finally paying for his crimes — but is it too little too late?
I did not want to write about this. Honestly.
However, I am tired of the cognitive dissonance in our communities. The journalist, Jim DeRogatis said,
“If it had been a white girl in wealthy Chicago — this would have been different.”
It’s true.
Ever since we learned of that darned VHS tape where Robert Kelly was S — A’ing an underage girl, he should have been thrown into prison then.
DeRogatis was the Chicago Sun-Times music critic around 2000 when he received an anonymous tip through fax about R. Kelly. He tried to go down the rabbit hole and explore more about this but he came against shut doors, phone hang-ups and overall silence.
Then you have the annulled marriage to Aaliyah when she was 15. Yes, R. Kelly married Aaliyah when she was 15.
