The Dissolvement of Friendship
It’s the slow cracking of an iceberg that crumbles unnoticed
The friendship David had with Jonathan in the Bible, is my definition of a true friendship. Crying with each other, celebrating one another’s victories, it’s just you and your friend against the world — whether that is a blood relative, or spiritual relative. However, much like a proud, tall, solid ice structure, there could be cracks forming underneath, that splinter then crumble without your permission.
I had lots of friends once. I could count them on my finger, so to me, that’s a lot. They were my late night friends, call anytime friends, mall friends, we met in high school kind of friends. You couldn’t keep me off my little Sprint flip phone back then.
We would talk all hours of the night:
“Erica, do you think I should stay with him?”
“Erica, what would you do?”
“Erica…did you pay your phone bill?”
Me: “Hey girl, how long must we miss our period before preggers become a scare?”
I didn’t mind staying out at the mall until late because one of my friend’s parents was overprotective. They only trusted her with me. I never minded walking with a friend halfway home because it was dark out and we aren’t Wonder Women.
