Sweet Machine

A poem of how we let tech tell the story of a corporal body (or whatever you want it to be)

They laid off more tech workers
today —
Data scientists, advertisers, and coders in
waves
colossal giants with deep, green pockets
in cahoots with AI

They cover it in safe words like
“macroeconomics” and “layoffs”
When what they mean to say is:
“Your time is up, something beyond
your fingertips will improve
you”

My sorry pancreas behaves the same
way —
the doc said, “
Your beta cells have been laid off,
too tired to keep up with the ebbs and flows
of the glucose business —
you need to
cut back”

It’s a sign of rejection when
crisp cereal of Sunday morning
becomes your nemesis
or the glucose high from
white bread of society
suddenly spikes your sweet
like a mad volleyball.
