Some Things I’ve Come To Terms With As a Longtime Christian
Subservient women, male egos, and friends of Jesus
I’ve read the bible most of my life and there are some parts of it that are ignored by church leaders or misunderstood. I’m talking about Scripture and stories that uplift women and not place them as subservient slaves to the male ego. Or Scriptures that promote abuse.
The goal here is not to cherry pick, as the bible should always be read in its context and with an understanding of the cultural practices of that time.

Deborah is not mentioned often in the church and maybe that serves the male ego’s purpose. Deborah was a prophetess and wife to Lappidoth. She held court during pre-monarchic Israel, meaning she was a judge of sorts. She was inspiration for defeating the Canaanites and even composed a song of her great victory.
