Rumors Of War Against Juicy Black Bodies
My work-in-progress is proving to be a challenge, but incredible too
When a writer begins their journey, they have some kind of mental roadmap as to where they want to go with the story. Many claim that even after outlining their work, the characters “take over”. The funny thing about writing ‘Rumors of War Against Juicy Black Bodies’, is that as a hybrid mix of poetic forms and narration, it is proving to be a daunting yet super exciting task.
As I mentioned in my podcast today, the idea for this book just fell into my “lap”. The Muses tapped me on the shoulder about a book such as this over a year ago and I ignored their call. I was already chest deep in negative news concerning Black people. I was already receiving backlash for my thoughts on the Black experience.
For me, these were painful experiences mentally because not once have I EVER received name-calling, threats, or have been gaslit in my entire life until I decided to write about the Black experience on Medium.
