Orlando Is Criticized For Its 4th of July Message

The real question is: Were they right?

This past Saturday, the city of Orlando, Florida questioned why people would want to celebrate Independence Day when there is so much strife. The city faced so much backlash that they retracted their very observant, common sense statement, and issued an apology instead.

Should they have apologized though?

Nope.

In my opinion, a big, fat NOPE.

We celebrate Independence Day because originally, we were once a part of the monarch Britain when finally, the “founding Fathers” declared the 13 colonies were now free, independent states.

Now, if you were Black during that time of July 4, 1776 — there should be no doubt that freedom was not for you. This is a fact.

In light of everything (or should I say in darkness?), what is there to celebrate today? Women’s rights have flipped upside down. Human trafficking is still going on apparently, with all the court cases coming down the pipeline.

Racism against Blacks is still here.
