One Drop of Earth’s Kisses
An ode to Earth
I’m thinking of Earth and the One Drop Rule —
a drop of African ancestry made you black in the
20th century.
A drop of Mother’s DNA made your lips
curl into a wicked grin
or clownish smile;
a drop of daddy’s DNA could
make your skin pale white
or honeyed brown
Let’s make one drop of
humanity, the new rule —
a teardrop similar to
rain falls, embraced by
Mother Earth‘s sandy hands
while the sky finishes
its final cry, a myriad
of heavenly hues will
grace the sky
I hope you enjoyed my poem. It was inspired by this week’s Earth Day prompt over on Lifeline Poetry.
