Once Again Black Folks Are Upset At A Film…

I’m at the point now where I wish naysayers would just not support anything

After watching and enjoying The Woman King and now Wakanda Forever, I’m suddenly realizing that some Black folks just don’t need to watch certain films.

The latest backlash come from a select few who feels that we are once again endorsing the “Strong Black Woman” trope and emasculating Black men in film. One Black woman on Instagram said,

“I just watched Wakanda Forever and I am PISSED! Here we go again with all these buff, masculine looking women while the men are emasculated!”

Any other era, I might have understood where she was coming from.

However, in reality we do see more women leading households, churches, and businesses. Let’s not forget historical data of African queens leading armies and kingdoms. So, yeah these movies will reflect that.

But there are more surface levels reasons why Wakanda Forever and The Woman King are seemingly “emasculating” Black men and the answer is less complicated than you think.

I spoke with my husband about this, and although he slightly agrees with some of what the influencer says, he and I both agree on easy reasons why these particular movies are
