Are we conquering the “sting” of death through storytelling?

Initially, my plan was to provide a recap and review of Netflix’s adaptation of Christopher Pike’s The Midnight Club. However, the series prompted me to reflect on my own views on mortality. With three chronic conditions that rank among the leading causes of death, my sense of immortality has given way to endeavors to postpone the inevitable.

In essence, ‘The Midnight Club’ centers on a group of terminally ill teenagers living at Brightcliffe Mansion. They gather at midnight in the library to “make ghosts,” which is to tell each other ghost stories. Their stories delve into themes of the afterlife, witches, murderers, and incorporate elements of mystery and suspense. I forgot most of what happened in the novel over 20 years ago —

But I’ll never forget how it made me feel though.

We think it’s possible to beat death…

When someone declares they’ve “beaten cancer” or are “battling” a disease, we offer congratulations. It instills hope and bolsters our faith in God, reinforcing the belief that our fervent prayers have been effective.
