My Addiction To Watching Korean and Japanese Apartment Tours

Has more to do with a YouTuber’s charm than the place itself

It all began with anime.

Then somehow spiraled down to wanting to understand the language.

It coalesced into watching YouTubers talk about teaching in Korea through EPIK — I was hooked. These YouTubers had the wonderful audacity to show us their micro-homes with the adorable background music and their smiling faces.

They invite us into their apartments so we can see their small seasonings cabinet and pretty rice cookers and their slender “wet” room.

More importantly, they want to give us a taste of reality. Showing us that life is great over there, but you have to make do with some un-Westernized fixtures(which, by the way, Westernized does not always mean good).

I now know what key money is and the space to place your shoes is called the “genkan”(pronounced, “GEEN-KHAN”)

Pretty soon, I would lie back and just watch the apartment tours. I know I’ve watched between 30–50 videos in a short span of time and I know some who have watched more.

I can’t help it.
