Maybe I’m Not Meant To Write Viral Stories
Finally accepting my place in Medium’s world
I received a message this morning that went a little something like this:
“Erica, I’ve seen several articles like this on the topic already. Consider changing it so as you don’t commit plagiarism.”
I responded that my article was well thought out and I cited two sources. Everything else was my own thought on the topic that no one else wrote about.
Another article was about a celebrity, and it did not have as much virality as others.
I came to two conclusions today: Either I’m not a very good writer or I should stick to writing essays that won’t ever go viral but means a lot to two people.
Medium is a platform where you can write what you want, but if you want to see true readership and dollars, you have to write sensational stories and I enjoy reading viral, sensational stories but I don’t believe I should write them.
Every now and then I come across news that I wish to expound on using this platform, but I hold back because maybe I can’t TELL it like someone else can.
