So, you’re not going? You’re their firstborn/closest/etc.

Me: No. I’m not.

Why not?

Me: Ohhh, I don’t know…just started new job, they are firing people for attending funerals, I’m an introvert and do not like being a part of grieving sessions. It hurts my soul. Take your pick.

#Trapped

Ever feel trapped in having to go places you do not want to go?

A funeral is a stickier situation because it involves a loved one who has sadly passed on, and the family wishes to do the traditional thing and grieve together. They want you there for hours of tears and preaching and the “celebration of the dead going home”

All of that is really nice. Honestly. I’ve been to so many funerals since 2012 that I am familiar with the process — and let’s be real. It is a VERY somber time, especially for those closest to the deceased. I’ve received condolences, given condolences, but not once have I judged someone for not “being able to attend”

Not once.

Everybody grieves differently
