It’s The Age Of Pleasure
Is Janelle Monae trying to tell us something?
I’ve talked about how much I love Janelle Monae’s music before. I was fortunate enough to start listening to her in 2017 while researching what Afrofuturism was. Her name was at the top of search engines for Afrofuturism. Just listen to her previous albums like The Archandroid(2010), The Electric Lady(2013), and even Dirty Computer(2018).
Now, Janelle Monae has shed her “skin” so to speak. Choosing to show more booty and breasts rather than don the black and white tuxedos she is known for. She has let her hair down, now rockin’ neat braids.
Her latest single “Lipstick Lover” has everyone buzzing. On one side of the discussion, people are fangirling over her new “soft porn” video. They feel more represented and genuinely just enjoy her music.
Then comes the other group — those who have been fans of Janelle Monae’s avid listeners for years. In this group, the feeling is that Monae is doing too much with her body and being a bit too “open” with her sexuality.
Here is some of what people have to say about her new video/song:
“Ok, we get it Janelle. You’re pan sexual.”
“Is she trying to get more views?”
“I love this hit! It’s going to be a great summer!”
