It’s Just ‘Business’

A cold antithesis to kindness

It’s just business.

Why do we say this? What does it imply when we do?

I can tell you this.

It doesn’t come from anywhere good. Saying business does not clean up the harm that is intentionally done. I hate this term to the core. Truly.

Let’s think about the origin of the saying, shall we?

Business with the ‘Godfather’

It was first coined in the movie The Godfather.

Enter Tom and Sonny.

Tom constantly says it’s purely business! “Strictly business!” In the movie, lines begin to blur between business and spirits(wine/drunkenness). Murder and traitorous behavior is seen in the light of “just doing business”

Or take major companies. Many of them have policies that do not favor the customer. When we were robbed 2 years ago, we filed a claim with our renter’s insurance company. They did not even pay us half of what was stolen. In fact, it was not even 10% of what was taken from us.

It’s just how their business is run. It’s how most insurance companies are ran(I’ve been in the industry a few years and counting, so I know)
