It’s Beginning To Be Too Much To Handle

The Type 2 Diabetic journey continues…

Lately, I have been posting Swell podcasts on my journey with my diabetes. I have been managing it supremely well and had my doctor and senior doctors telling me to keep up the great work; don’t lose focus because whatever I am doing is saving my life.

We are now in January 2024, and as I began working on my Year Compass, I came into some trouble with my diabetic management.

A couple of days ago I literally had a tuna wrap (the wrap itself was only 3g of carbs), and for drink, I had water…literally — water. When I wanted a snack later, I reached for a few chopped pieces of banana with a spoonful of peanut butter.

Later that night, approximately two hours later, I checked my blood glucose level only to discover that my glucose numbers spiked to 175–180mg/dl!

My heart dropped.

This can’t be right.

I retested a moment later, and it was a few points higher than before!

What was happening? Why does a healthy meal of simple tuna in a wrap with green leaf lettuce, produce such high sugar spikes? Was it the banana? The peanut butter?

I think it was my glucose test strips.
