Is It Truly Important To Read 100 Books a Year?
I’ve surpassed my goal of reading 75 books before the year is out and here is what I learned
I’ve read online about people hesitating to set the 100 books a year goal and asking if it is truly worth it, because most can’t seem to reach it. Does it even matter to have a reading goal? What’s the deal with reading 100 books anyway? What does it mean? I’m here to answer all of those bookish questions and more!
Matthew Ward, a fellow Medium writer says to stop trying to read 100 books a year. It is stressful and we need to stop listening to gurus and business moguls who tell us to do so. This ultimately causes two issues:
- Stress
- Retention problems
Years ago, I would always set my goal of 100 books because, hey, I love to read! So, I assumed it would be easy because reading 100 books would internally solidify the reading beast in me, and I can brag about finally achieving that goal.
However, it was stressful.
First of all, I like thick books. Most books I read are Bonafide novels and I can read books and finish them up quickly, but afterwards I move on to the next book — and the next.
