In a previous article, I showcased a list of Christian artists who brought a fresh new sound.

In this article, I wish to share with you the Christian artists my husband and I listen to. They bring a whole new set of understanding of the Gospel and their lyrics are not for the sensitive- if anything, their words fly right in the face of the church.

Woke simply means your eyes are open to the injustices in this world.

Being a Christian means a person who follows Christ and his teachings.

Are we able to understand the plight of those being oppressed while also holding to the teachings of turn the other cheek and love thy enemy?

That’s difficult.

For any person.

This is a dilemma that James Cone tried to solve. In the book The 1619 Project(which I quote often in my articles these days), he is quoted as saying,

“The black church is thus faced with a theological dilemma…reject Black Power as a contradiction to Christian love and join the white church…or accept Black Power as the socio-political truth of the gospel.” (p.350)
