I’m Letting Go Of Skills That Were Never Mine
And you should too
Can you believe my latest burst of motivation came from a fantasy anime? An anime, of all things.
Some people find inspiration in celebrities, self-help books, life coaches, or even rock-bottom experiences. But what I am about to share with you comes from The Rise of the Shield Hero.
Stick with me — I promise this will set you free.
There’s a scene where Naofumi, the main character and Shield Hero, and his team have to climb onto the back of an enormous, evil tortoise. It’s wild, I know. But stay with me.
One of the newer members of the team is Rishia — a shy, awkward, deeply introverted girl with green hair. She’s known for being terrible with a sword, constantly anxious, and barely able to keep up in battle.
But in this moment, she steps forward to translate an ancient text carved into stone. She’s holding a book instead of a weapon. And suddenly, she comes to life.
Another character says to her,
“Rishia, when you hold a sword, you don’t look nearly as alive as you do now.”
And that’s when it hits them. Maybe, instead of forcing her to master skills she’s weak in, they should help her build on the gift that already makes her shine.
