If You Owe Taxes, This Is What You Should Do
A story about death and taxes…um, just taxes
I tossed the white envelopes on the arm of our couch and paid them no mind. One of them had the glaring IRS Department of Revenue letterhead on the top left but I was too tired to open it up. It could just be a regular letter or some other thing, nothing serious.
Eventually, the next morning I opened the letter and after reading it twice my heart dropped.
Your account will be frozen until amount owed is due.
I was frozen on the spot.
One thing was certain — our account will be depleted
I told my husband, and we were both perplexed because prior to being in the position we’re in now, where we have stable jobs and a home, we basically struggled and lived in motels in the past. We worked retail jobs to pay for things and to eat.
We pulled ourselves “up by the bootstraps”, obtained decent jobs and a living.
This letter came as a GIANT surprise. “They must be joking.” I said. “We work hard and pay our rent and taxes! What is going on here?”
It was not a joke.
I tried going online to the stupid irs.gov website and it wouldn’t let me even…
