I Sing the Body Black and Pink
Homage to a Walt Whitman classic
I perceived that being Black is enough.
This Black is Power, History and Love
No body is as expensive nor expressive.
as the woman of Power, History, and Love
Her skin has the tingles of warm sun after it
ran its fingers through the melanin, her hair
burns mightily under ultraviolet rays;
see how her torso twists on top of him in Power, History, and Love?
Her onyx womb birth sand cedars, night, and cream;
her Black and Pink are striking —
Below, is the labia majora, pitched in brown Black
bald, or with sparse hairs — dominant.
Labia minora: hot pink, or peony
willing and feminine
soft and juicy as ripe, sweet fruit
awaits his hot tongue.
Who dare to mock the Power of Black,
the history of Black
the love of this Black
When she cradles all of us in her arms?
Thank you for reading!
This poem was inspired by Walt Whitman’s classic, amazing poem, “I Sing the Body Electric” you can read it at the Poetry Foundation. I warn you though, it is a long form poem but once you get started reading it, you won’t want to stop.
