I Am Not Connecting Well With Erica In This One

‘My Big Fat Italian Break-Up’ shows the main character in a new, terrifying light

“That’s right Maddy. Always have plans. Always have hope. You might not get exactly what you want, but you can always do something else. That’s what life is for. Making decisions. Good ones.” ~ Erica to her daughter Maddy in My Big Fat Italian Breakup

After reading Nancy Barone’s first book in the series, The Husband Diet, I got to know Erica, the main character, her children and am so glad she dropped her horrible cheating husband, Ira.

However, all the sympathy I had for Erica in the first book, disappears in this one. My Big Fat Italian Break-Up picks where The Husband Diet left off — Erica and Julian finally move to Italy together and she works on getting her Bed & Breakfast up and running, while Julian works on being the author Erica pushed him to be.

All the “peaches and cream” dreams she had of moving to Italy with the gorgeous Julian turns out to be rotten. There are a lot of layers to this book: family secrets, competitions, betrayals and yes, there is breaking up in this book.
