How To Deal With Trolls And Keep Your Joy
Had an old troll on my Swell the other day, but I had the magic power to get rid of it
I am no stranger to trollish behaviors online. In a way, I miss the good ol’ days when I wasn’t on anyone’s “social media” — I’d rather enjoy going to a good website and read a blog without starting my own in the process. Yet, in today’s world we are realizing that social media opens a wide door to hateful people with no life. But I found a cure.
A couple of years ago, I wrote about troll behaviors I’ve encountered even on Medium.
People will read your opinions, treat them as Gospel, them show up in your comment sections with vitriol when they could have just stayed off of your page(but hey, the engagement helps us as writers anyway).
I’ll explain my personal example and then how I dealt with it.
Last week, I posted my thoughts and feelings about the philandering pastor of a church on the Swell app. I mentioned that my former pastor, whose a woman said, “marriage to bishops and pastors is kind of high risk.” I also said that the church is saturated with characters like the cheating pastor because there is no true growth.
