I promise you, I did NOT want to write a political flavored piece, yet here I am nearly four days after the presidential election, pondering what happened, what went wrong and how should I proceed during the next election.

I did not want to vote, but due to outside pressures — I did.

Now I’m trying to understand if the outcome was based on race, gender, or the problem of an antiquated system of politics.

Pressure to vote because it’s a privilege

If you’re like me, you probably didn’t want to take time from your precious morning routines to go stand in line to scribble in multiple choice bubbles. If you wanted to use that time to bail form work briefly, then I certainly understand.

Well-meaning friends kept telling me and my husband to vote this year. For several months, we were adamant.

We said, “Nope.” Voting changes nothing, we have not seen where our vote truly counted.

Perhaps some luck was involved when we did vote in the past, but we knew the “powers that be” who truly controlled this nation, would still reign supreme.
