Have You Read Medium’s New Partner Program Changes and Incentives?
From boosting thoughtful posts to getting rid of the 100 follower requirement
Along with partner program changes, Medium will have their first ever virtual conference this Saturday and I am super excited to attend the full day event. I am definitely proud of the strides Medium is taking, but I do have to voice a few of my concerns about these changes.
Is it true that writers who write what the people want because of the data, are being shortsighted?
In Medium’s latest post it states,
“Valuing grabbed attention makes sense when you’re in the business of selling as much attention as you can to advertisers. It’s not uncommon to hear this justified as: “It’s what the people want! Just look at the data!”
They then go on to say, it is “naive and shortsighted” to just go off of data. However, Medium themselves see who gets more clicks and it is not the deep poetry and essays that I and others have posted. It is often the divisive essays that are popular.
Certainly, there are those writers whose essays are stellar and get recognition.
P.S. I am glad the 100-follower requirement is fading away, but this means for those who are not a part…
