After reading, KL Simmons article on writing being a best friend or an enemy. I think I finally realized what writing is to me.

Why do we typically use pain for writing?

“It’s so hard to forget pain, but it’s even harder to remember sweetness. We have no scar to show for happiness. We learn so little from peace.”-― Chuck Palahniuk, Diary

Pain receptors are located throughout our bodies, they’re there to let us know something is wrong, and to FIX it.

As the quote above mentions, happiness does not leave a mark, and are often ephemeral. Perhaps people write their best poetry when they are in pain because through the pen, it can possibly be fixed. Some things doctors can’t fix, only the pen can do that.
