Is there a rubric for worshipping God in the 21st Century?

I’ve pondered this for a couple of years now. I can’t help but wonder: did we lose the meaning of life by doing meaningless traditions?

Matthew 15:3 ESV

He answered them, “And why do you break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition?”

When I was first “saved”, I went to church willingly all the time. I was fifteen and instead of being excited over slumber parties and movies- I was more excited to put on my long skirt and grab my floral print bible case to go to the Baptist church down the street.

Most Sundays and Wednesdays I attended with my aunt. On Saturdays, I attended teen meetings where they served fruit and cake and helped us with understanding college applications.

All in all, not bad.

I had a routine with God. Give him honor on Sundays. Fellowship and bible studies on Wednesdays. Then on Saturday, I hang out with other kids like me.

But it was those nights alone with the Lord that I found a most and beautiful meaning. Those nights I cried out to him for my father to stop smoking. I plead with God to bring my parents back to together.
