Midori moved to get out of the passenger seat, but Ren was already at the door to let her out.

“You sure you want to go in there?” He said, eyes clear with patience and calm.

Midori nodded. It’s been a year since she and Brayden broke up. Their breakup was surprisingly…calm. He confessed she was not the one for him, and Midori, knowing her own shortcomings when it came to relationships, agreed with him.

Although it hurt.

As a self professed hermit and bookworm(the two are not synonymous), Brayden needed someone more “outward than inward”, so instead of fussing about it, she made plans to leave.

For six months while she saved up money, they regarded each other as roommates.

Sometimes, she would hear a woman’s voice on speaker from the other room.

Sometimes, Brayden would be gone for days.

But, Midori had peace and quiet. She had her books. Her job.

She and Ren now stood in front of the place she once called home. Brayden told her it was okay to come by to get her mother’s jewelry box.

She agreed.
