Forever Auntie — Women Without Kids Are Doing Fine

There is nothing wrong with having children. I love children. However, ever since I was in high school I remember giving a speech where I declared, “I’d rather adopt”. A couple of years after that, I told people I’d rather be a nun. I don’t know, maybe subconsciously, I knew I had thin patience and needed space more than any other individual.
Last night, I received a video call from my dear niece. When she said, “Auntie! I have glasses like yours, now!”
My heart melted with love as I nodded. Yes, I am Auntie. I like the sound of Auntie. It sounds like I am a well spring on the side. An assistance. Another person whom she loves. A person who has adequate time to dedicate to listening to her, giving her undivided attention. No other child comes before her or her brother, because I don’t have children. They are blessed, and so am I.
This goes for my nieces and nephews on my husband’s side too. They are free to see us and stay the night when they want to. No kids come before them. What a blessing.
