Fall Plunders Summer In Sharp Contrasts
The miracle and mystery of Fall is poetic and scientific
The naked Earth suddenly bursts
Into vibrant, luscious color
Seeking pleasure no longer in
wet heat, but deadens the
trees’ arms with broken, foliage
devoid of former life…*
Growing up, Summer has always been my favorite time of year. I think, most children enjoy Summer for two reasons: No school and…no school. I enjoyed it for a third reason — the cookouts. I was a foodie back then(still am), and would savor the moments of eating barbecue and waiting on my parents to finish fixing the Kool-Aid so I can pour some in a red Solo cup.
Fall is the third season of the year. In the Northern hemisphere, this tends to take place between September and November. In the Southern hemisphere, it is March to May. We can tell when Fall has come because the ground beneath our feet gets a bit colder.
The air snaps crisply and the skies are a crystalline blue and no longer thick and soupy blue, like in the Summer. It is a time where we plan to don the witch’s hat or the vampire’s fangs and become whoever we want to be for just one night.
