Don’t Water the Haters or They Will Grow

Social media bullying is a constant problem

I highly doubt that when everyone is born, they make a resounding determination to become bullies.

But as I ponder on what I’ve been seeing lately on social media, there is only one thing I can say:

Bullying is getting worse. Cyberbullying in particular.

After Lizzo released her video Rumors, everyone had something to say about it. Even I admitted I am not one of her fans but I still respect her confidence and her talent. Apparently, others did not appreciate her loving all her curves. In the comment section on YouTube, there are people saying things like:

“She sounds like a hater”

“Being fat is not healthy.”

“This is sending the wrong message! Being fat kills!”

So as I looked at these comments, I heard a little voice — perhaps my dark side saying: “Well, aren’t they right? Being big is nothing to smile and sing and dance about.”

I was not tempted to post that. Unlike others who did it on impulse.

I know how it feels to be bullied. However, being bullied as an adult? That has to be weird and highly depressing. Here you are gifting the world with your voice and all they can do…
