Discovering the Profound Wisdom of Being In Your 30s
It is a time marked by undoing
I was in part inspired by Vinsha Vijayan ‘s post on “Discovering the Joy of Being in Your 20s.” So I thought I’d reflect and do one for those in their 30s. Enjoy!
Being in your 30s, lends a fresh wisdom that your 20s, did not afford to tell you. Your 30s is the quiet, slow slap to the face and you find that the slapping is most enjoyable. In a sadistic, masochistic sort of way.
You begin to quote things you never quoted before:
“You live and you learn.”
“These young folks will never understand.”
“Marriage is for fools — things like that.”
“I need to be married now.”
Not every 30 something year old will have these thoughts. Some of them are more existential in nature. Your thinking patterns sometimes regress to that of your 20s:
Am I good enough?
Have I achieved what I set out to?
Am I pretty/handsome/ugly? Do people even like me?
Who are my real friends?
When I first hit 30, I did not feel any different — at first. I was still me. I am still me.
