I want to start off by saying, I have always loved Kanye’s genius. It wasn’t just his music that I had on repeat and knew most of the lyrics to, I was also fascinated by the artwork on his CD covers. You know. That familiar teddy bear on the CD covers shown slumped on school stairs or being shot into space.

You couldn’t get me to stop playing Late Registration over and over in 2006.

But a few things happened to Mr. West while we were rapping his lyrics and watching his music videos. Something insidious and confusing, but downright sad.

The slow descent to madness

Kanye lost his mother Donda on November 10, 2008.

He released 808s and Heartbreak November 24th that same year, which, to be honest, I liked only a few of his songs on there, but I had the feeling his soul was crying out for…something else.

Then there was the famous “How Sway!” Moment when he basically just rips into Sway with his verbal monstrosity. We even lived through his antics about showering after being with Amber Rose and his My Dark Twisted Fantasy.
