Bye, Social Media
My personality tried, but nope — no more.
Update: I’ll rebrand on one of my platforms and let others go.😅
I just realized today that I have been trying to ice skate uphill. I have several social media accounts: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Tik Tok, along with Pinterest. However, after trying to do an actual video for Tik Tok a few days ago and failing because of technical hiccups, I feel that the universe is trying to tell me to stick with writing and audio if possible.
I am not built for the shock videos people can do confidently. A man can sing in the tub and go viral, a person can post their book review on Bookstagram or Tik Tok and get thousands of views. An older woman dances with her girls and get a million views.
I am a book reader and enjoy poetry. None of those go viral no matter how much marketing money I’ve spent on views. I do know of some Book Tokers and Bookstagrammers who have a massive following, but there is one thing that keeps me from really giving it my all — Video.
We are in the age of “video”. People want to SEE you. They want to see you dance, make jokes and do all these crazy stop motion stuff to keep their attention.
I don’t like showing my face. I hate even putting my profile picture up, that’s just how I’ve always been.
