There was a time that big goals and goal planning was a thing, but now is it worth it? What has changed?

A popular YouTuber was asked, “What are your goals?”

It was funny watching her answer, because she kept choking on the word goals while restating the question. She eventually answered that goal setting was not as important anymore, and in small letters on the side of the screen it read,

“Paying my rent is the goal”

It got me to thinking.

How important is it to have any goals in 2025?

I’m no longer a teenager being asked to write out my goals. Although in high school, I was asked many times to write out a goal. Big goals. Small goals. Career goals. Eventually, as a full-fledged adult, I perused books on success and goal planning.

I learned how to create “micro goals”. Goals I can accomplish in a shorter time frame and that are more immediate. Such as the small goal of setting aside $50 every two weeks. Or the small goal of applying to 5 jobs per week.

Health goals such as walking at least ten minutes per day in order to achieve the bigger goal of exercising longer for weight loss.
