Astute insights here!
I write haiku mostly, so although it is not traditional "rhyming", it has a structure, and I love it because of its structure. Rhyming too much can lose the total, natural breath of a poem, so I am not into rhymes so much--perhaps in songs or rap lyrics, but not all poetry.
For those who can't help but express themselves "poetically" whether it's describing painful or romantic emotions, there are poetry forums where that is allowed. Critics may not want to peek in there because it is not a place to criticize someone's writing form. Again, I totally understand you and Tessa because there are some rules of poetry to follow and some rules that are meant to be broken well.
