“Add some bread to that order. I want to get full. Just like mom used to tell me. Gotta have some bread.”

“Is Patricia having cake at her wedding? If not, I can bake one for her for free! It’s so lovely she found her soulmate!”

“Flowers and candy for me? Oh wow. Thank you. I love you.”

In all these instances, a sweet act of kindness blesses the person, and creates fond memories forever.

I’ve been to weddings where the cake fondant was so well decorated, I did not want to eat it. When I ate it, it was sweet, cold, and made me shiver with giddiness. Same with sweet potato pie, or pumpkin pie. The spices of the season coat my tongue in memories that never go away, year after year.

Just to surprise me, my husband would come home with multicolor flowers and a bag of Dove chocolates — the smooth milk chocolate flavored ones. I relish those moments — all of those moments. Not just because it involves food, but because the moments are attached to culture. A cause. A time of love and of sharing love. You want the person to smile when a piece of food bursts on their tongue.
