A Woman’s Beauty Is Temporary Currency

Is this due to societal expectations or something more?

You’ve heard it said many times. As a woman ages, her biological clock ticks and her value is diminished, whereas a man’s attractiveness only increases with age. The conundrum is that the woman’s youth seem stolen — sucked away from her when she least suspects it, but the man desires just that…her youth. Where is the balance?

Over on Swell, a fellow podcaster posted her show, “There’s Nothing Wrong With Aging Gracefully”, where she talks about how there is no denying that a woman in her youth is literally the best time of her life. Her youth IS her social currency. For better or for worse, she has the pick of the men she wants, the social life she wants, and in some cases her beauty allows her pretty privileges such as landing a great job.

It’s kind of like what Dorothy says in the show Golden Girls,

“Ah! to be young! Even when you’re ugly you’re still cute!”

Dr. Umar, the other day, mentioned that Jada Pinkett and Vivica A. Fox — two recognized and popular beautiful women from classic films, have always been beautiful, but then he says loudly,

“Stop with the cheek injections! Your faces look as if you went ten rounds with a boxer! What are you doing…
