A Cut Above The Rest
I stand on this
You can tell I stand alone
All alone atop a hill of
sacrifice, rain of blood
and stitches.
Tossed here to life randomly
a few tears, pain, Life Lessons
became friends.
For starters, it makes no sense
to envy. Those gardens are
always pretty.
Prettier cars, prettier hair
prettier skin
I compared them to me.
’Cause of time and prayer
I learned one thing: It never looks cute
to be petty.
I’ve earned my stripes
I’ve stood my ground
I’ve slayed my demons.
Now I know it’s dung
which makes
the grass greener.
No longer envious, no longer
Meaner, I stand above my pettiness
A cut above the rest…
of my former mess!
